Having to press “pause” on “normal” life recently encouraged a lot of us to take a step back and assess our current situation.
It made us realise that we live fast-paced lives and are constantly glued to technology, whether this is watching movies on TV or relying on a fitness tracking watch.
And these constant distractions mean that we often fail to look after ourselves properly.
But this really has to stop. It’s time to put your health and wellbeing first.
And how do I do this, you ask? Well, by trying out these top 3 self-care trends.
Firstly, many of us are adjusting to working from home instead of in an office, which can be quite challenging to get used to.
After all, there are so many more distractions when you live where you work and you work where you live.
You may find that you struggle to switch off when you’re relaxing in the evening. Or you may find yourself reaching for that TV remote when you have a big project due in two hours.
That’s why it’s so important to ensure that you create a positive working-from-home environment. And you can do this in the following ways:
Have a designated room or space for your office and refrain from working anywhere else so you can easily transition into “work mode”
Create a daily routine with working “hours” — and try not to work outside of these hours to maintain a healthy work-life balance
Get up out of your chair often, even if it is just to use the toilet, seen as though long periods of sitting are bad for your health
Turn your phone on silent or put it in another room
Face a window when you’re working if possible, or at least make sure there is plenty of natural light
Take regular breaks and go outside for some fresh air
Get dressed, even when it’s tempting to stay in your pyjamas because this will also put you into “work mode”
Having said that, the longer you work from home, the more you’ll discover which of these techniques work best for you.
When you’re not working, one of the most popular self-care trends of the moment is to create an at-home spa.
The idea is to mimic a spa-like environment so you can treat yourself on a weekly basis.
This will then help you to forget about your worries and enter a deep state of relaxation.
But how do I do this, you ask? Well, here are some examples:
Light some candles
Play soothing music
Soak in a hot bubble bath
Give yourself a DIY facial, manicure and/or pedicure
Read a good book
Get a good night’s sleep
Basically, just do whatever it takes for you to feel amazing!
Lastly, it’s important to stay connected to loved ones even when you can’t always see them — and technology is a life-saver for this.
However, make sure that you spend time with positive people as much as possible.
Why? Well, energy is catching. If someone you know is all about spreading good vibes and you’re constantly on the receiving end of that, it will encourage you to spread good vibes too!
Even though it can be difficult to find the time to care for yourself, it’s worth doing.
After all, it can help you lead a more positive, healthier and happier life.
That said if these self-care trends don’t work for you, keep persevering until you find ones that do.
